Dr. Carlos A. Gabuardi, Lic. Jur., LL.M., Ph.D., is a practicing lawyer and founder of Gabuardi Abogados. He holds a License in Jurisprudence from the Universidad de Monterrey; and both a Master of Laws, with distinction, and a Doctorate of Laws (Ph.D.) from Tulane University. Doctor Gabuardi has published several articles in Law Reviews and Journals in Mexico and abroad. He is currently a Distinguished Legal Researcher at Facultad Libre de Derecho de Monterrey and is a former member of the National Researches System of Mexico.
Dr. Gabuardi's law practice focuses on Corporate Law, Contracts, Business Transactions, International Family Law, and International and Domestic Litigation. He frequently provides expert opinions, testimony and Affidavits on Mexican Law before foreign courts, on matters related to Conflicts of Laws, Family Law, the legal framework of goods and assets during marriage, the legal framework of doing business in Mexico, and Forum Non-Conveniens. He is a certified arbitrator of the Center of Mediation and Arbitration of the State of Nuevo León.
Dr. Gabuardi served as an attorney in the Legal Department of the World Bank (Washington, D.C.) where he was in charge of the Bank's portfolio for various countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. He was Corporate Legal Manager and Assistant Secretary of Grupo Gamesa (currently Pepsico), where he served as in-house legal counsel for that Industrial Group. In December 2004, Dr. Gabuardi was part of the team that organized the first training for Judges in the Americas on the Hague Convention on International Child Abduction.
Dr. Gabuardi has been a Professor of Law and researcher at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Head of the Law Department and Professor of Law at Universidad de Monterrey; Visiting Professor of Law, St. Mary´s University School of Law, San Antonio, Texas; co-planner and administrator of the program: "Joint Venture. A Transnational Study and Training Program for U.S. and Mexican Business Lawyers” (St. Mary's University School of Law and Universidad de Monterrey); Adjunct Professor of Law, The Washington College of Law, American University, Washington, D.C.; Adjunct Professor of Law, Universidad Regiomontana, and a Member of the Regional Advisory Board of the Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration of St. Mary´s University School of Law, San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Gabuardi is currently a Distinguished Legal Researcher and an adjunct Professor of Law at the Facultad Libre de Derecho de Monterrey and an adjunct Professor of Law at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico.
Dr. Gabuardi has taught courses on Comparative Law, Comparative Law: Mexico – US, Private International Law, Public International Law and International Business Transactions, Commercial Arbitration and The Legal Framework of Doing Business in Mexico.
Dr. Gabuardi is a member of the Mexican Bar Association, Nuevo León Inn (he was the Law Schools Liaison and chaired the Commercial Law and the International and Comparative Law Committees); member of the Monterrey Bar Association (Colegio de Abogados de Monterrey); member of the Académia Nuevo Leonesa de Derecho Mercantil (The Nuevo Leon Academy of Commercial Law); member of the Asosiación Nacional de Abogados de Empresa, A.C. (National Association of Corporate Lawyers); the Law and Business Review of the Americas; was a member of the US – Mexico Bar Association (where he was the Mexican co-Chair of the Legal Education Committee); member of the the External Advisory Board of NAFTA; the Mexican Academy of Private International and Comparative Law (Académia Méxicana de Derecho Internacional Privado y Comparado). He is Co-Secretary and a numbered member of the Group of the 100 of the Center for Legal Innovation, Development and Research for Latin-America, Garrigues – Tec de Monterrey, with No. 63, he is member of the Mexican Academy of Private International and Comparative Law and of the International Academy of Comparative Law, member of the Arbitration Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce, the Mexican Committee before UNESCO's International Association of Legal Science and the Mexican section of the Association Henri-Capitant des amis de la culture juridique française . He is currently member of The Silicon Valley Rotary eClub.
Dr. Gabuardi was President of Province XXVIII of the International Legal Fraternity Phi Delta Phi, member of the Editorial Board of the National Section of the newspaper El Norte (Grupo Reforma) and represented Monterrey Tech before the Justice Consortium of the EuroSocial Program of the Eurpean Union. He also produced and conducted the talk-shows “The World of Law and the Law in the World” for 10 years (Frecuencia Tec, 94.9 FM,) and “Law and Justice” (AW Noticias, 1280 AM).
During his academic career, he has published more than 20 academic articles Spanish, English and Italian and books in both Mexico and abroad on topics including Commercial Law and Business Transactions, Private International Law and Comparative Law.
